Junior Nordic ski team makes good showing in Breckenridge

Several top three finishes

The Crested Butte and Gunnison Junior Nordic Ski Team successfully kicked off their race season this past weekend in Breckenridge. The group of five racers traveled to Breckenridge for the Summit County NRL race series on Saturday and Sunday, December 6 and 7 at the Gold Run Nordic Center, which featured some of the top competition across the state.
Dawson Stucki placed a strong eighth in the 10-kilometer classic race on Saturday. Hannah Smith nabbed two third-place finishes in her age group in the five-kilometer races, both skate and classic. Ian Boucher was impressive with two victories in both of his three-kilometer races. Pharwit Durgan skied strong and placed in the top eight in both three-kilometer races in a very strong field of racers. Kai Sherman rounded out the scoring for the team with a great third-place podium finish in his first three-kilometer classic race and a solid fifth in his age group in the three-kilometer skate race.
The next race series for the team will be in Steamboat Springs on December 19 and 20.  Stay tuned for a recap of those races.
