Keep the town soapy and safe
Local restaurant owner Davin Sjoberg asked the council at their meeting Monday, July 6 to provide more soap in the public restrooms. “This is a serious and huge problem,” he told the council. “One person can get a whole town sick. All it takes is for a sick person to leave the germs on a doorknob at a local business and things can spread quickly. It’s a real important issue.”
He asked the council to direct the staff to keep the public restrooms lubed up with soap. The council said they would direct staff to make it happen.

Land Trust wine tasting expanded on Elk Avenue
As part of the Crested Butte Land Trust’s July 24 fundraiser in Crested Butte, nine local businesses will now be part of the Wine and Food Fest event, “Evening on Elk.”
The primary wine tasting event will take place on the 100 block of Elk Avenue. But the Land Trust got the okay from the Town Council to allow Coldwell Banker, Cookworks, At Home in Crested Butte, Artisan Rug Gallery, Studio West, Kate Seeley Studio, Casa Bella, Mabuhay, and Rumors/Blue Moon Books to also host tasting events for the Land Trust the same evening. They were each granted special liquor licenses for July 24 from 4 to 9 p.m.
“It should bring people up and down the street without closing it,” explained Land Trust executive director Ann Johnston.
“I think it’s exciting,” said councilmember Leah Williams.
“I think it’s neat,” added Mayor Alan Bernholtz.
Most of the wine festival events for the week will take place in Mt. Crested Butte.
