Crested Butte cites IBG “Movie Cabin” project for watershed violations

Application process in works

The Movie Cabin renovation by Scarp Ridge LLC near Irwin has received an official notice of violation from the town of Crested Butte. The violations piggyback on similar violations cited by Gunnison County. These latest transgressions violated Crested Butte’s watershed ordinance.

Irwin Backcountry Guides (IBG) is a subsidiary of Scarp Ridge LLC and is pursuing a snowcat ski operation in the Irwin area with Movie Cabin as a base.
According to the town’s notice that was sent to project manager Pete Carrigan, a 1,000-gallon propane tank had been buried on-site. The installation of the tank without a watershed permit violated provisions of the town ordinance.
The notice states that “corrective action” must be taken by October 18. “Failure to do so will be grounds for the Town of Crested Butte to initiate the formal cease and desist process… and seek penalties.”
On Tuesday, Scarp Ridge LLC applied to the town for a “Minor Impact Activity Watershed Permit.”  The application states that IBG wants to install a grey water system, a 1,000-gallon in-ground propane tank, shed relocation, storm water, erosion sedimentation, and slope control measures in the Crested Butte municipal watershed.
Public comment on the permit application is being taken until October 15.
Crested Butte Town Manager Susan Parker said the town would review any future activities on the site as well.
