Treasury Liquors hopes to re-open by winter

“I can feel people are missing us”

Treasury Liquors and The Store in Mt. Crested Butte have been closed all summer after an accidental fire caused significant damage earlier this spring, but the owners hope to have the businesses up and running by this winter.

Treasury Liquors and The Store are owned by Justin and Tracy Hastings. The two businesses are operated out of the same building, and are the only place to pick up groceries or beer and liquor in Mt. Crested Butte. Treasury Liquors is located along Gothic Road, just across from the bus loop and Mountaineer Square.
The businesses have remained relatively untouched since the fire on Saturday, June 6. According to Fire Department Chief Ric Ems, the fire started in the deli preparation area and was accidental.
Over the last few months the Hastings have been working with their insurance company to get the businesses back on track. Tracy Hastings says their claim on the structure damage was settled last week.
Immediately after the claim was settled, a 30-cubic-yard roll-off Dumpster was parked in front of the building and work began on gutting the interior.
Tracy Hastings says she and her husband are glad to get back to work.
“It took a little bit longer than we had hoped with the insurance company,” she says. “We’re doing really well. Basically this week we started the remodel, but we did a little work last week. We’re looking forward to working six days a week on the remodel. I certainly hope to be open by ski season.”
Hastings says there won’t be any big changes to speak of in the remodel.
As the remodel progresses, Hastings says she and her husband will continue to work with their insurance company to get a separate claim settled on the inventory of the businesses. While the flames did not spread very far, much of the inventory was damaged by heat and smoke.
The Hastings plan on opening both sides of the business at the same time, unless there are any unforeseen difficulties. “I can feel people are missing us, and we’re missing being up there,” Tracy Hastings says. “It was a long summer, and yes, we made the most of it, but it is definitely time to get back to work.”
