Young racers rip up resort at USSA event last weekend

200 age class skiers hit the hill

Two hundred young alpine racers took to the Buckley/West Wall ski runs for a series of giant slalom races Saturday and Sunday, January 2-3.

The USSA event was hosted by Crested Butte Mountain Resort and the Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team (CBMST) and was the first race of the season for several of the CBMST age class skiers (ages 7-14).
CBMST J3 racer Solon Hooper-Gray led the team, reaching the podium three out of the four races. J5 Madison Hoffman had a stellar weekend as well with two trips to the podium, and Summit Wallace and Lucy Neill finished top 10 in each of their races.
“It was a great weekend of racing,” says CBMST Director and Head Alpine Racing Coach Drew Cesati. “It was a great first race across the board and should prepare us well for upcoming races across the region.”
The competition season for the CBMST athletes will now hit overdrive on all fronts with skiers hitting the road for alpine races as well as ski and snowboard park and pipe events.
The CBMST will host its next event this Saturday and Sunday, January 9-10. It’s the second stop of the Southwest Series with the superpipe competition on Saturday and a slopestyle on Sunday, January 10.
