Gunnison High School freshman dies unexpectedly

In a tragic turn of events, Gunnison High School lost a member of its freshman class on Saturday, March 20.
In a prepared statement, the school’s administration said, “Gunnison High School suffered a tragedy this past weekend that resulted in the death of a student. Out of respect for the family, we will make no other comment at this time other than to say that our thoughts are with the family.”

 

 

 

According to a report from the Gunnison County Sheriff’s Department, a call was received at 9:35 p.m. Saturday regarding an unattended death at a residence north of the city of Gunnison.
An investigation showed that the 15-year-old female committed suicide.
The school has started grief counseling for students and a fund has been started for the student at Community Banks of Colorado in family friend Dena Hildreth’s name and another at Gunnison Savings and Loan.
Checks can be made payable to Hildreth and questions about the fund can be directed to either the Gunnison (641-9000) or Crested Butte (349-1000) branches.
