Christmas Vacation
School will be closed for the holidays from Monday, December 20, through January 2, 2011. Classes will resume bright and early on Monday, January 3, 2011. Have a wonderful holiday.
Elementary Holiday Program
The K-2 Holiday Program will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room on December 15 at 5:30 p.m. Third grade students will hold their holiday presentation in the MPR on another date during the school day. More information to follow.
Holiday Band Concert
The Holiday Band Concert for students in 5th-10th grade will be held on Tuesday, December 14 at 7 p.m. in the MPR. All participating students are required to be in the MPR by 6 p.m.
35mm film cameras needed
The CBCS Art Department is looking for 35mm film cameras. If you have a camera you are interested in donating please contact Emily at egibson@gunnisonschools.net.
PTA drawing winners
PTA held a drawing at the Holiday Bazaar for people joining the CBCS PTA that day. The winners were as follows: 1st Place, receiving her choice of any of the Designer/Reusable bags we sell was Elizabeth Bond; 2nd Place, receiving a PTA Cookbook was Barbara Crawford; and 3rd Place was Gwen Nixon taking home a $5 gift certificate to Camp 4 Coffee. We are so grateful for our supportive community members. Our membership goal for the 2010/2011 school year was 350. We are currently at 337, so we are almost there. There will be a drawing for all those that join between now and January 31. There are membership forms in the office. It only costs $10 per year per person. It’s an inexpensive way to do a lot for your kids.
Candy Cane Holly Grams
The Junior class is selling Candy Cane Holly Grams to raise money for the Junior/Senior prom. Each holly gram includes a candy cane attached to a colorful card where your holiday message may be written. All candy grams are available in the office at the affordable cost of $2 each or three for $5. Holly grams will be delivered to your student next week.
Lost and Found
The lost and found is overflowing…don’t know how everyone is staying warm these days with so many missing gloves, hats, coats, etc., etc., etc., in our lost and found basket. Please claim your items soon as we will be delivering clothing to those in need before Christmas.
After School Science Program
The After School Science Program is up and running at the library. Kids in grades 1-5, 3:45-4:45 p.m. at Old Rock Library. This Wednesday, the National Park Service joins us, and next week we’ll be experimenting with the Coal Creek Watershed Coalition.
CB Youth Council Benefit Concert
All the way from London, British band The Brittle Bricks will be playing Mountaineer Square Ballroom Friday, December 10. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. with opening act, local singer songwriter Jessie Dean. This is an all ages show with family activities during the first portion of the evening. Tickets are $10 for individuals and $30 for families and can be purchased from Youth Council members as well as at Rumors, The Studio Art School and at the door. MS Girls Basketball
For all middle school girls, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade interested in or just thinking about playing basketball, the middle school coaches, Becky Jantz and Katherine Hargrave, will have an orientation/information meeting, on Friday, December 10, at MS Titan time, at the CBCS. There will also be a follow-up meeting, on Wednesday, December 15, at Titan time. Team practices will begin after school, Monday, January 3, until then, there will be open gym for the middle school girls, every Tuesday, from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m. in the MS Gym.

HS Basketball: Friday-Saturday, December 17-18: Middle Park HS Tourney (3 games), at Middle Park HS, Girls V Friday, 6 p.m.; Saturday: 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m.; Boys V: Friday 7:30 p.m., Sat: 10:30 a.m., 2 p.m.
Farm to School News
December’s Local Foods Lunch will be Tuesday, December 14. Students and staff will enjoy a Hearty White Bean Stew with Kale, Homemade Whole Grain Roll, and Fresh Hotchkiss D’anjou Pears. Support fresh, local, and organic food in school lunches by encouraging your child to buy lunch on local foods days. As always, parents may join students for lunch. Please call 641-7720 to RSVP before 9 a.m. the day you will be coming to keep our lunch counts accurate.
