Resort to offer Masters Training Program for adult ski racers

“It’s a great opportunity to improve your skiing”

One could sit on the couch and wait, almost fruitlessly, for the snow to fall or one could get up and use these sunny skies and firm snow to hone one’s ski technique.
Thanks to 15-year ski racing coach River Winquist and Crested Butte Mountain Resort, the latter is now possible.
Winquist is offering a Masters Training Program starting Monday, January 16 for all ages and abilities. He ran a similar program for three years at Alpine Meadows with huge success.
“We had 25 skiers with season passes and close to 40 total, including day skiers, doing the program,” says Winquist.
The program will run Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon on the Westwall ski lift. Winquist will offer three hours of instruction. The day will start with an hour of freeskiing followed by two hours of running gates.
The program is available either all season long or on a daily basis. Register through the ski school office.
Winquist will finish the training with a town league race series in the spring. He hopes to kick off the race series with a downhill course, complete with safety netting, following the Prater Cup.
“It’s a great opportunity to improve your skiing on a year like this,” says Winquist. “Work on your technical skiing running gates.”
