Local hockey girls make first trip to national championships in Dallas

Hope to return again

The U14 AA MSGHL Rock Stars girls’ hockey team traveled to Dallas two weeks ago to vie for the Tier II National Championship.
The first game was Wednesday, March 28 against the Montgomery (Md.) Blue Devils. The Rock Stars played tough, but lost 3-1, allowing an empty net goal with time running out. The Blue Devils scored three power play goals.
Their next game was against the Andover (Mass.) Warriors, a tough, physical team. We spent a lot of time in the penalty box, more than they did. Madison Lambert played solid defense on the many penalty kills. We weren’t connecting with our passes, and the Warriors were. Hailey Pike scored a power play goal in the 5-2 loss.
Game three was against the Buffalo (N.Y.) Regals. The team was feeling pretty down-hearted but gave it their best. Kaitlyn Seifert had the assist on our only goal in the 6-1 loss. The Regals went on to the finals and lost 2-1 to the Alaska Ice Breakers. Congratulations, Ice Breakers.
The MSGHL Rock Stars U14 AA team, in its first year in the two-year-old Rock Stars program, made it to the 2012 national championship. The three local girls and the whole team should be very proud of what they’ve accomplished—and hungry for next year.
