WSCU men and women place second at regionals in x-country

Both advance to NCAA Div. II Championships

Both WSCU men’s and women’s cross country teams finished in second place at the NCAA Div. II South Central Regional meet. With the second-place finish, both teams advance to the NCAA Div. II Championships on November 17 in Joplin, Mo.
After taking third place at the RMAC Championships just two weeks earlier, the Mountaineers stepped up as a team to earn their second-place finish. Ian Butler (sophomore, Lakewood, Colo.) finished as the top male runner for WSCU. Butler finished with a time of 32:15, which was good enough for third place overall.
Colorado School of Mines had finished second at the RMAC Championships but finished 17 points behind WSCU at regionals.
The Mountaineers had four runners finish in the top 16. Butler placed third, Vegard Olstad finished seventh, Ieuan Thomas placed 13th, and Garrett Wilson finished 16th.
Adams State’s Kevin Batt finished in first with a time of 32:09. The women’s side repeated their RMAC Championship second-place performance, finishing behind Adams State.
Sophie McNeely (Senior, Littleton, Colo.) was the top runner for the women, finishing in second place behind Adams State’s Alicia Nelson. McNeely was 10 seconds behind Nelson’s winning time of 21:44.
The top six teams finishing at NCAA Regionals advance to the NCAA Championships. Five men’s teams and four women’s teams were from the RMAC.
