Due can’t take the heat…or can he?

Former Crested Butte public works director Rodney Due will be the new Crested Butte public works director. Due had resigned last month to take a job on balmy Fripp Island, South Carolina but discovered the sawgrass isn’t always greener on the other side. He will be back in his office Monday…just in time to deal with some paving heat.

Tennis courts waiting for some warm nights

The town tennis courts aren’t yet ready for play because of weather. Parks and Recreation director Janna Hansen said the court layer cannot be installed until temperatures at night remain above 40 degrees. That has not yet happened on a consistent basis as of mid-June. It will—sometime—and she hopes to have them ready to go in July.

Huckstep a CAST officer

Mayor Aaron Huckstep will get a new title to put on his resume. Huckstep was elected last Thursday to be the new president of the Colorado Association of Ski Towns.

Upcoming meetings

Town planner Michael Yerman told the council he will be meeting with Colorado Department of Transportation officials in Montrose to discuss the Red Lady Avenue intersection that was highlighted as a major issue in the town’s transportation plan. The council will have a discussion at a future meeting on how to best regulate vendors at the Four-way Stop. BOZAR will be taking a look at a general Big Mine Park master plan.

Whatever attorney stuff

Town attorney John Belkin told the council he was responding to a letter from organizers of the Whatever USA event last September. They want to be completely done after the slurry seal project is complete on Elk. Belkin will let them know that won’t happen until everything is absolutely buttoned up.
