Two women killed in water-related incidents

by Mark Reaman

The Gunnison County sheriff’s office is investigating two separate water related incidents that took place on Friday, June 21 and ended with two fatalities. One took place on the Gunnison River below the McCabe’s Lane put-in west of Gunnison while the other occurred on Blue Mesa Reservoir. Both resulted in the deaths of two females.

Gunnison County sheriff John Gallowich said his department is compiling the facts of the tragic accidents and will provide details as they become available. He again emphasized that the rivers are running fast at the moment and caution needs to be taken even on those portions of the local rivers that are open to the public.

Our sympathies go out to the family and friends of the people involved in both tragedies. We will provide details online as they become available and a complete story will run in the June 28 issue of the Crested Butte News.
