Following a first round win over the Grand Valley Mavericks 6-2, the Blizzard fell prey to the division powerhouse, Durango Steamers, 3-1, sending them into the losing bracket. Sunday morning the Blizzard was pitted against the Gunnison Blades, with whom they’ve traded wins, losses and a tie throughout the season.

It was a packed house at 8 a.m. and the play lived up to the intensity felt throughout the building. Regulation ended in a 2-2 tie forcing a sudden death overtime situation. Crested Butte prevailed in overtime just 25 seconds into the extended play.
With that win, the Blizzard was now set to play Durango for the championship title and the chance to represent RMHYL in the state tournament. The game opened with Crested Butte going up 1 -0, as each traded the lead until the game was tied 3 -3 starting the third period.
Ultimately, the Steamers were able to score and win the game 4-3. The boys had an amazing season and should be very proud of their second-place trophy, now making the rounds in Crested Butte.
