Academy’s Galley earns 17th in 4 kilometer at AAU nationals

Undefeated athlete under pressure
Crested Butte Academy cross-country runner Matt Galley competed at the AAU National Cross-Country meet at Virginia Beach, Virginia on Saturday, December 1. Galley achieved 17th place in the tough national field, finishing the 4-kilometer race in a personal record time of 13:49.8.

The previously undefeated athlete was immediately under pressure in his race with a very fast start, placing him 12th before dropping back to 20th mid race.
Galley’s strength and determination was evident towards the end when he fought back to 17th place, just over a minute off first place (12:47.7).
“It was an incredibly fast race,” said coach Trent Sanderson. “We were aiming for a time around 13 minutes to really give Matt a chance at making the top five, and he did a great job trying to achieve that.”
Galley will be having a short rest phase before the indoor track season commences in the new year.
