Panther squads get ready for thrilling post-season play

“A” team closes regular season with two big wins

The Crested Butte Panther “B” team traveled to Gunnison last week to take on Gunnison’s U12 squad.

Crested Butte got off to a shaky start, falling behind 2-0 early in the game. First-year goaltender Monika Olsen played solid the rest of the game, along with defensive stalwarts Ryan Carroll and Elsa Watkins holding off all the Gunnison rushes the rest of the game. Final score Gunnison 2 – Crested Butte 0.
Panther coaches John Dethloff and Todd Carroll were pleased with the progress the team has made this season. Up next for this team is the Aspen round robin March 1-2 where they will face off against Aspen and Steamboat.
The Crested Butte Panther “A” team finished the regular season play with impressive wins over Summit this past weekend in Breckenridge 12-0, 6-0.
Morgan Osterling recorded her fifth shutout this season behind a tenacious Crested Butte fore-checking squad. The game plan of coaches Tim Seifert, Tony Lambert and GJ Santelli was for the Panthers to fore-check and cause turnovers. It worked as the Panthers out-shot the young Summit squad 38 to three in game one and 26 to five in game two.
Crested Butte finished regular season play at 8-3-1 and is heading for the MSGHL state playoffs held March 7-9 in Aspen. This is a great accomplishment for just the second year of girls hockey programs here in Crested Butte.
