Powerade Pinnacle bike race gears up for another season

Three races, lots of prizes

The 11th Annual Powerade Pinnacle Summer Bike Race Series kicks off with the first race of the season on Thursday, July 24. The regional recreational racing series was created in 1998 by Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR). The popular race series is geared for fun and competition, from beginner to expert riders, for a total of 12 racing categories. The races consist of varying lengths and difficulty to challenge riders of all abilities on Mt. Crested Butte’s network of trails and quality single-track.
Races take place on Thursdays at 5:45 p.m. at the ski area base. The three race dates for this season are July 24, July 31 and August 7. Dates are still tentative and subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
Once again this year the series will offer the Free Shimano Youth Series for kids during the same time. The Free Shimano Youth Series is designed to give children the opportunity to compete like their parents in a positive and fun environment. The series has been experiencing more and more families each year, so it only makes sense to make it fun for everyone.
Registration for each race is held at the Butte 66 deck from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. the day of the race. Entry fee is $15 and the kids’ race is free. Pizza or pasta, beer and prizes follow every race. For more information call (970) 349-2221 or e-mail adyar@cbmr.com.
