Letter of credit not released
The Board of County Commissioners opted Tuesday, November 11 to enlist the assistance of the town of Crested Butte in resolving one of the last remaining issues with the amenities at the Buckhorn Ranch Subdivision: the ball field.
The field was part of an original Development Improvement Agreement (DIA) that had laid out the requirements that developer Dick Landy would have to meet before the county would release letters of credit it was holding as insurance that the work would be done.
With much of the DIA complete, the ball field remains one of the areas where the county has seen sustained resistance from the residents of the subdivision.
In a September meeting between Landy, residents of Buckhorn Ranch and the Board of County Commissioners, it was suggested that the DIA be amended to replace the ball field with a fund that could be used at the discretion of the residents after support for the ball field faded.
But commission chairman Hap Channell reminded the attendees that the ball field had been a request from the town of Crested Butte, which saw rising pressure on its own limited softball facilities and hoped to gain space at Buckhorn Ranch.
With the date past that all of the items in the DIA were to be completed, and Landy hoping to have the rest of his credit released, the BOCC suggested that the matter be taken to the town for discussion.
No date has been set for that meeting.
