Lawyers still trying to hash out details of school/town IGA

Could be signed next week

The Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between the town of Crested Butte and the Gunnison School District is close to completion but still not signed.

Crested Butte town manager Susan Parker and school district supervisor Jon Nelson spent more than two hours Monday going over sticking points in the proposed agreement.
Essentially the agreement is meant to convey town-owned land on the Tommy V baseball field to the school district to be used for a building expansion. In return, the school district will pay for the construction of a new baseball field and any other expenses that come with it, such as the need to move the town barn. The building will be energy-efficient and both the town and the school district will have access to the facilities.
“Jon and I went over the agreement and realized most of the issues that needed resolved were technical between the lawyers,” said Parker. “The negotiated items were all pretty clear.”
Nelson agreed. “The meeting went very well with Susan, and there are no big picture issues. We are very close to having a signed agreement.”
Nelson plans to bring a document to the school board for signature at a special session slated for next Monday, December 15.
“I don’t anticipate any problems,” Nelson said.
Parker has the authority from the Town Council to sign the agreement as long as no material changes are made by the school board.
An element of trust that the agreement will be signed between the two entities is obvious, as soil samples were being taken at the site by Tommy V field on Monday.
