CBMR’s Pinnacle bike race series continues with Super D

This race has everything

Week three of the Pinnacle race series brings in a cutting-edge event that has just about everything for anyone who rides—the Super D—on Thursday, July 30.
The race begins with a Le Mans start, that is, a short running sprint to your bike, before dropping down the mountain with short stints of uphill and long portions of downhill, both wide open high speed sections as well as technical shots.
“The event blurs the distinction between cross-country and free ride,” says Mountain Sports director Drew Cesati. “There is a little pedaling involved.”
The course will take riders down Meander, across Painter Boy flats and down the Painter Boy trail before connecting up with a portion of the new adaptive trail the Luge.
“It’s a wider trail so we could see some bar-to-bar action higher up on the course,” says Cesati.
From there, riders will turn onto Avery for a taste of downhill before linking up with the lower West Side trail and then ending with the finish chute of the Mountain Cross track. The entire course can be viewed in detail, including distances and vertical drop, online at crankcollective.com.
Registration will be at the Butte 66 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., with races scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
There is no lift access for this event so competitors must get themselves up to the start.
As always, the cost to register for the race is a mere $15 and includes post race pizza and beer.
