Stretching, yoga, “Vibes” workshop at Spirit, Mind & Body

In this week’s Spirit, Mind & Body 2009 Summer Series, take part in Special Active Isolated Stretching and Iengar Yoga classes, as well as an It’s All About the Vibes workshop.

Active Isolated Stretching Class, 8:45 a.m., Friday, August 28, at the Gym, 523 Riverland Drive; Bill Smith will teach. This stretching session improves flexibility and balance, which improves your participation in any activity. Plus it prevents injuries and can address chronic pain. Active Isolated Stretching is easy and effective. It incorporates exacting stretches for specific parts of the body (i.e.: six stretches for different parts of the hamstrings). The practitioner then holds the stretch for two seconds and does eight to ten repetitions. This pumps blood to the muscle, increases circulation and improves flexibility. This works so effectively because after a muscle is stretched for two seconds the body quits sending oxygen to the muscle, thus preventing the muscle from further stretching. By not tripping the stretch reflex, an optimal stretch is achieved and incrementally flexibility is improved. Call Bill at 349-5664 for more information.

Neuroscientist and professor emeriti at the Tufts University School of Medicine Joan C. King, Ph.D., writes that Penney Peirce’s new book, Frequency, The Power of Personal Vibration reveals the simplicity that underlies apparent chaos. In detailing and giving examples of how to get in touch with the soul’s purpose, action, and connection to others, Penny Peirce brings us the gift of how to live in alignment with the magnificence of who we truly are. Explore the concepts and implications of being vibrational beings in a vibrational, attraction based universe in this “It’s All About the Vibes Workshop.” Learn processes to achieve alignment with our essence and listen to clips from an international workshop. Bring a dish to share for the potluck starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce, 601 Elk Avenue on Monday, August 31. For more information call 349-6464.
