Crested Butte U14 Panther girls hockey team will return to the MSGHL (Mountain State Girls Hockey League) state playoffs after a dramatic 3-2 victory over the Gunnison Blades last Monday night at the Jorgenson Ice Arena. The win will seed Crested Butte in the fourth position and a chance to repeat as state champs.

The MSGHL state playoffs will be held February 26-28 in Denver this year.
Ali Sunter and Marissa Lambert each had a goal and assist and Monika Olesen did her “magic” in goal. Coach Tony Lambert will now “keep the girls busy with some scrimmages in the next two weeks to be ready for states.”
In U12 action the Panthers took care of the Blades U12 team 8-0 in their second game of their season series last week. The Panthers dominated the game out shooting Gunnison 23-5 with Izzie Dethloff recording the shut out. Crested Butte had a two-goal game from Rachel Potoker, Bradley Santelli and Mallory Mikeska.
The U12 Panthers then traveled to Arvada and came up short 0-4 and 2-4 to end their season. Maddie Lambert and Kaitlyn Seifert scored a goal each in the second Arvada game. The U12 squad finished the season with an 8-8 record good for fifth place. Only the top four teams in each division make the state playoffs.
