Keeping a close eye on the cats
The council approved changes to the town code to restrict snowcats in town. Essentially, the cats will be restricted to running on town streets to between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.
The council felt a 9 p.m. curfew for the cats was reasonable. But they told C.S. Irwin representative Billy Rankin not to abuse the rules.
“I’m not a fan of the idea of snowcats in town but I feel we have an institutional commitment,” remarked councilperson Jim Schmidt. “We have strict limits on them and I expect them to be followed strictly. I won’t be very forgiving if the rules aren’t followed strictly. “
“I encourage you to be very respectful of those on Whiterock,” added mayor Leah Williams.
Rankin promised the company would be good.
The council will review the snowcat permit next fall to make sure C.S. Irwin has a good cat operation.
Dogs and a lot switch
The council approved an ordinance loosening the rules governing dogs in the Verzuh-Rotary Park, parts of the Eighth Street greenway and Academy Park. The council agreed to transfer an affordable housing lot owned by the Crested Butte Fire Protection District in the Paradise Park affordable housing subdivision. The affordable lot is located in a block that is ready to build. But the district is not yet ready to build anything on the lot. So the town will trade it for another lot on a block that does not yet have services. The council approved the transaction at its Nov. 15 meeting.
