BOZAR approves ice rink roof
A roof for the Big Mine ice rink is progressing. The Board of Zoning and Architectural Review (BOZAR) approved the roof design on Tuesday, February 22. “They feel comfortable with it and we are moving along,” Parks and Recreation director Jake Jones told the council at their February 22 meeting. “We are about a week from bidding on the steel. We are waiting on the soils report.”

Jones said he is working on fundraising to complement the GOCO grant that will pay for the majority of the project. “Of the approximately $100,000 we need to raise locally, we have pledges for about ($70,000),” he said. “People want to see this happen.”
Jones is also making a flurry of applications to private foundations. He hopes to garner about $120,000 in such contributions.

Downtown lodges report to council
The Downtown Crested Butte Lodging Association gave the council an update on its activities. The vice chairman of the organization, Chris Haver, told the council that the new website is up and working. “We’ve had a good response and we are focusing on special offers on the site,” he said. “We are offering discounts to the military, teachers and the people coming for the Matthew Shepard Gay Ski Week.”
Haver said the group would be approaching the council for continued funding. “We hope to keep the ball rolling,” he said.
