Southwest Series to close with a bang

Halfpipe this weekend

The Southwest Series, a regional USASA ski and snowboard competition series, will finish the 2010-2011 season with a bang in the next two weeks.
Crested Butte Mountain Sports Team (CBMST) and Crested Butte Mountain Resort joined forces to host the series this season. It comes to a close starting this Sunday, March 6, with a halfpipe competition.
The local contingent of CBMST snowboard athletes are coming off a strong showing in Telluride last weekend and are looking to defend their home pipe on Sunday against an influx of young guns from around the Southwest.
The Southwest Series concludes Saturday and Sunday, March 12-13, with two action-packed days of boardercross.
All competitions start at 11 a.m. and will be held under the Gold Link Lift.
Registration for the pipe event will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the Capital Room at the Elevation Hotel the day of the event. Online registration ends at 10 p.m. Friday, March 4.
Registration for the boardercross competitions will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, March 11 and 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Capital Room at the Elevation Hotel. Online registration closes at 10 p.m. on Friday, March 11.
This could be the last chance for local athletes to qualify for the national finals April 2-12 at Copper Mountain.
