Curry resigns from Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center director role

Sherwood steps into position

Kathleen Curry has stepped down as the executive director of the Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center (MCBPAC). The board accepted her resignation January 1. Taking over the position will be Woody Sherwood.

Curry is moving down-valley to work with the Gunnison Arts Center. She will be working with Crested Butte Center for the Arts executive director Jenny Birnie to help get the GAC on firmer footing.
In a statement released Tuesday, the board noted that “Kathleen came to the MCBPAC and led it through a time of important consensus building to evaluate the proposed sites, finalize the site selection, and help complete the necessary agreements between the Town of Mt. Crested Butte, CBMR [Crested Butte Mountain Resort] and MCBPAC. Her contributions to the success of the project have been substantial and the Board of the MCBPAC would like to express their gratitude for service well done and we wish her well in her future endeavors.”
Board president Tom Biery also congratulated Sherwood. “Woody brings exceptional depth to the project,” he noted.
Sherwood was part of the CBAR (Crested Butte Arts and Recreation Committee) processes that have occurred at this end of the valley in the last 10 years. He also has served as president of the Crested Butte Music Festival (CBMF) and chaired the Strategic Planning Committee of the Crested Butte Music Festival for several years. Sherwood also was instrumental in bringing the town of Mt. Created Butte, the Mt. Crested Butte Downtown Development Authority, CBMR and CBMF together to discuss the concept of what could be accomplished with a performance facility in Mt. Crested Butte.
The board also officially announced two new board members. Tim Mueller, president of CBMR and Seth Novatt from the CBMF are now members of the board of directors.
“Tim obviously brings a great connection to the resort but also has a tremendous depth of experience in helping us develop our capital campaign,” Biery stated in a press release. ”Seth is managing director of Bernstein Global Wealth who has board experience with the Concordia Orchestra and Hoff Barthelson Music School, and is also proficient amateur violinist.”
