Agreement near in Bond case

Restitution details being worked out

It appears some sort of agreement is close between former Crested Butte-Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce executive director Richard Bond and the District Attorney’s office. Bond, who is facing five counts of felony theft, appeared in District Court Wednesday, March 14. There, Judge Steven (SP) Patrick set another hearing for Thursday, April 5.

Deputy District attorney Keith Mandelski asked Patrick for the extension saying that an agreement between the two parties was close but scheduling conflicts had prevented him and Bond’s attorney, Tom Raiser, from getting together to work out the last details of a restitution agreement.
Patrick granted the extension but said if an agreement were not in place by April 5, he would set a trial date.
Bond, the former treasurer of several local nonprofit organizations, has been accused of theft in conjunction with his role with the Crested Butte Rotary Club.
Bond is looking at five class-4 felony counts of theft between $1,000 and $20,000 after allegedly taking more than $40,000 from the Rotary Club account in a series of transactions starting in November of 2008. The investigation broke out the transactions in six-month segments with the last allegedly occurring between May 14, 2011 and August 31, 2011.
Bond also faces a one count of theft under $500.
