Affordable housing issue pushed into May
The Crested Butte Town Council is still chewing on changes to its affordable housing ordinance. The council made some suggestions to the staff at a work session held Monday, April 16. The staff wants to run the new revisions by the attorneys working on the ordinance, so the issue was pushed back to the May 7 council meeting.

Ice rink will get used in the summer
The Big Mine Ice Arena isn’t just a winter venue. The newly covered rink will be used for summer events. The first event to be approved under the roof is the Celebration Gala for the Crested Butte Music Festival. The council approved the special event permit at the Monday meeting. The event will take place July 20 and utilize every bit of space under the roof.

Council and chamber close to agreement
The council agreed in principle to sign a service agreement with the Crested Butte-Mt. Crested Butte Chamber of Commerce. It has been a long negotiation process but with some documents to be supplied by the chamber concerning a line of credit it has, the council was comfortable with the new proposed agreement. The agreement basically allows the chamber to have an office at the Visitors Center at the Four-way Stop and run the Visitors Center and summer events. The two parties will start the service contract negotiation process again this fall.

More choices to eat outside this summer…
The council approved licenses for more summer sidewalk seating. The Sunflower, Teocalli Tamale, the Brick Oven, Maxwell’s and Montanya’s all will have outdoor seating this summer. The Lobar is also seeking outdoor seating but given the proposal to place it off of Elk Avenue, that business has to go through a separate process.
