Pummeler’s Butt races at Hartman Rocks September 29

Trail running races! Mountain bike races! Dual sport contest! Dinner party! Exclamation Points!

The competition season at Hartman Rocks closes with the second annual Pummeler’s Butt on Saturday, September 29. The day includes both trail running and bike races as well as events for kids and dinner at the KOA.
The marquee event of the day, the second annual Pummeler’s Butt 11, 6-mile and 4-mile trail running races both feature punishing and technically demanding terrain and are not for the feint of heart.
What, you say you’re not a racer? While this is a technically difficult trail race, it’s also an outstanding, challenging fitness run/hike/walk on a well-marked course, for the surefooted. You can choose not be timed and not to appear on the results pages.

Kids Running Races
Also, just for fun, multi lap trail running races for kids on our Growler Series course, and kids run for free.

Pummeler’s Butt Growler Mountain Bike Series Finals
There will be two distances, 9 miles (short course) and 18 miles (long course), featuring tons of classic and challenging Hartman Rocks singletrack. Trails for both courses include Rocky Ridge, Joshos, Rattlesnake and the Notch. The long course also features Dave Moe’s, Outback and Skyline, just to mention a few.
Both courses feature challenging trails and are for experienced mountain bikers with good judgment. You can always get off and walk your bike down sections you are not comfortable with (that’s where the good judgment part comes in: Walk Today, Ride Tomorrow!)
Categories will be:
Long Course Expert
Long Course Sport, and Short Course
Men’s and Ladies’ categories

Kids Short Track Mountain Bike Races
We have a great multi lap course for kids. We’ll need to see how many and what aged kids attend to determine just what these events will look like. Kids races are free.

Pummeler’s Butt Dual-Sport Contest
Pummeler’s Butt run and Growler Finals mountain bike combined time for athletes with diverse skill sets. Categories: 10-mile run combined with long course MTB; 5-mile run combined with long course MTB; and 5-mile run combined with short course MTB.

Pummeler’s Butt Dinner Party
Last year’s dinner party was held at KOA Dave’s place, and is just what it sounds like. Food and drink provided. The Old Miner, Pie-Zans, Firebrand, Twisted Fork, Mochas and New Belgium all helped out with the dinner party last year. Let us know if you’re interested in being a supporting partner in 2012. The dinner party is free and open to all Gunnison Trails members and supporters and anyone curious about what Gunnison Trails does. We will briefly discuss Gunnison Trails’ mission, functions and projects and we will recognize our 2011 volunteers and supporters.
