Riverland batch plant approved by County

Silo to be built in Riverland

The Gunnison County Planning Commission approved a concrete batching operation planned for Riverland in spite of concerns from neighbors. The decision gives John Nichols the go-ahead to build a 27-foot tall silo for the storage of cement powder and allows for some outdoor storage as part of the operation.

At a work session in early November, neighbors had expressed frustration that the batching operation was contrary to their expectations. Ranchers Bill Lacy and John Rozman both said that early plans for the lot, shared during a land exchange that gave Nichols access to the land, proposed a sewer system and leach field.
But according to county planner Neal Starkebaum the Planning Commission approved the application unanimously. The decision document includes a condition that the outdoor storage portion of the application, which is a variance from Riverland Industrial Park covenants, must be approved by the Board of County Commissioners.
