Public asks for manager that supports town

Applicants stand at 28

The Crested Butte town manager applications have been slimmed down to 28 from the original 99. The Crested Butte Town Council was brought up to speed about the remaining candidates after an hour-long “Coffee with the Council” public meeting to get citizen feedback.

“We heard a variety of comments Monday morning,” said Mayor Aaron Huckstep. “What I heard was that we need to make sure we hire someone good in the human resources element and someone who has experience with staff development. Another overriding comment was that people want someone to sustain and support the community.”
Huckstep said the 28 remaining applicants would be sent an email asking for more information on specific topics. The council would like the responses back by February 22. “The hope is then to move from 28 to ten or 12 by the March 4 council meeting,” explained Huckstep.
Skype or in-person interviews with the council will be conducted and the group whittled to no more than five. Those five will be brought to town if they don’t live here and further interviews and public receptions will be held. A job offer is expected to be made by mid-April.
