Gunnison Trails to offer help session for public comments on sage grouse

This Thursday, March 28, Gunnison Trails will host a help session for drafting comments in response to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services proposals to list the Gunnison sage grouse as endangered under the Endangered Species Act, and to designate 1.7 million acres as critical habitat for the birds.

“Our position is that the future of the Gunnison sage grouse in our valley is more secure in the hands of local agencies, organizations and working groups than it would be in the hands of the USFWS,” said Dave Wiens, executive director for Gunnison Trails.
The help session will be held at the Fred Field Center Main Building at the Gunnison County Fairgrounds from 6 to 8 p.m.
“We’ll have bullet points for discussion, paper, pens, envelopes, address labels (for the USFWS as well as for our Congressman and Senators) and stamps,” said Wiens. “You should be able to walk in with nothing and walk out with nothing, other than having ensured that your voice will be heard on this topic.”
The last day to submit public comments to the USFWS is April 2.
