Update expected by Monday, April 29
The Crested Butte Town Council has held a series of four executive sessions over the last two weeks related to hiring a new town manager, including a meeting as recently as Monday, April 22. No final announcement is forthcoming, but mayor Aaron Huckstep confirmed that the council has been in discussion with one of the final candidates for about a week.
“The negotiations are progressing quickly, although they began slowly due to a variety of factors. We anticipate that by Monday, April 29, the council will be ready to either appoint the candidate as town manager, or begin negotiations with one of the other finalists,” Huckstep said by email.
Monday’s meeting drew several members of the public curious about the final appointment. But while the agenda included the possible appointment of a new town manager, that item was removed from the agenda at the start of the meeting.
“We appreciate all of the interest our citizens have shown thus far, and ask all to be patient with the council as we near the conclusion of this important process,” Huckstep said.
No information was provided about what delayed the process but Colorado’s Sunshine Law allows the council to hold an executive session without public participation in matters related to contract negotiations and similar legal discussions.
The four finalists for the position are Crested Butte Parks and Recreation director Jake Jones, Gunnison Valley Rural Transportation Authority executive director Scott Truex, the city manager of Polson, Montana, Todd Crossett, and Charles Wright of Kroenke Sports Enterprises.
