Titans track returns to full strength after April break

Looking to peak in coming weeks

The Crested Butte Titans track team took a break from full-strength action last week with several athletes away for the April Break.
The Titan athletes who were in town did manage some workouts and a handful of Titans headed to Gunnison on Saturday, April 20 for the Gunnison Invitational.
Junior Rosie Ewert put together two strong performances in her events, the 100-meter and 200-meter dash.
Ewert posted a time of 13.46 to place third in the 100-meter dash and then ran a time of 28.48 in the 200 meters to finish in sixth place.
Freshman Tara Mortell joined Ewert in the 100- and 200-meters to place ninth and 13th, respectively, and then charged into her main event, the 400-meters, to place fourth with a time of 1:04.73.
Other notable performances for the Titans girls’ team came from freshman Sienna Brooks, who finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles and ninth in the long jump.
The boys’ team was equally thin, with just sophomore Kaleb Schultz and juniors Liam Mortell and Danny Prieto competing in Gunnison. Mortell and Schultz both had exceptional showings in their respective events as Schultz placed 10th in the 100-meter dash and then ran a time of 24.38 in the 200-meters to finish in fifth.
Mortell set a new personal record in the shot put, throwing 40 feet, 11 inches to finish in fourth place.
The Titans should be back to full strength as they head to the Montrose Invitational on Friday, April 26. They finish the regular season with a meet in Pagosa Springs on Saturday, May 4 and then head to center for the Southern Peaks league meet on Friday, May 10.
