ReTREEt America in Ft. Collins Memorial Day Weekend

Local on national bike, tree-planting scene

Longtime local, architect and former member of the famed Crested Butte Monkey Posse bike team Kent Cowherd has blended his passion for biking and community service into one activity.

Two years ago, Cowherd got involved in reTREEt America, based in Dallas, Texas. The basic role of reTREEt is to plant trees in areas devastated by a natural disaster. Furthermore, once at the site, the group relies heavily on bikes for transportation within the community and once done with their efforts of planting trees, the organization throws a party and takes a day to get in a group ride—mostly road rides but on occasion mountain bike rides.
ReTREEt America has done seven projects from Texas to Toronto, Canada and will be coming to Colorado May 24-25 for a tree planting effort in a Ft. Collins area devastated by wildfires last year.
Cowherd is heading there and is inviting local biking and tree-planting enthusiasts to join him.
Cowherd will be driving to Ft. Collins and can provide rides for individuals and bikes from the Gunnison Valley to the location.
Contact Cowherd at (970) 349-1017 or email [email protected] to line up a ride and/or get involved. For more information on the reTREEt program, check out www.retreetamerica.org.
