Gunnison man dies in crash

Investigation ongoing

A Gunnison man died early Saturday, August 31 after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving on Highway 50 west of Monarch Pass.
According to Colorado State Patrol public information officer Nate Reid, 20-year-old Nicanor Garcia of Gunnison was driving east on Highway 50 at 4 a.m. near mile marker 180 when his pick-up truck crossed into and over the westbound lane.

Reid said an investigation revealed Garcia attempted to correct before the vehicle rotated clockwise and then began to roll. Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene. Reid said Garcia was wearing his seatbelt and alcohol was not being considered as a factor in the accident. An investigation is ongoing.
