Town passes resolution related to Prospect mill levy
The Town Council passed a resolution certifying a 50-mill levy for the Prospect Metropolitan District No. 2, which the town sued last year for trying to get an additional 3 mills out of the subdivision’s owners to pay for legal fees without the town’s consent. In light of the lawsuit, the town passed a similar resolution last year to certify a maximum 50-mill levy.
“In the interest of consistency and to be sure that the town’s perspective and role in the process is protected,” town attorney Kathleen Fogo told the council at a meeting Tuesday, January 7, “this resolution addresses the fact that District 2 had certified an additional 50 mills for operating expenses for 2014 and basically outlines the fact that the town was never asked for its consent, nor would it have given its consent, for more, which is consistent with last year’s approach.”
In response to a question, Fogo agreed that the resolution was essentially just a formality.
Wedding garden reservations starting strong
The town’s wedding garden is already garnering reservations for the upcoming summer season. “So far for the 2014 summer, we have 19 weddings on the books,” town manager Joe Fitzpatrick told the council at a meeting Tuesday, January 7. “We’re on pace to match last year’s 30 weddings.”
