Honestly, the weather switch that came in last weekend and brought winter that lasted well into the week was a little brutal. So I’ll be brief. The ski area re-opening was a bit of a blessing. To be able to ski in that weather was a lot better than sitting inside and wishing I could get back out on my bike on the single track…but not being able to. So thanks to those who worked the lifts and the mountain last weekend. At least 1,600 of us appreciated it.
The ol‘ phone forecast shows the weather is returning to a more normal warming trend and this weekend should be sweet in the valley. I appreciate that more after Monday and Tuesday—and hope you all do as well. Spring is rarely easy in Rocky Mountains but it is always changing.
Speaking of change… Maybe it was the brutal weather but I found out late Tuesday that two of the key department heads over at the Crested Butte town hall turned in their resignations. Jake Jones and Shelley Jansen will be leaving. Two good people who were assets in that building. Ouch. Maybe it was the weather. Maybe it’s something else. My eyebrows were raised.
And I like the idea of Aspen awarding pins to those who ski 100 days or more on their mountain. This year more than 300 people hit the resort for a century. Ski bums from eight to 78 years old will get a pin. That is impressive for them all. I’m sure Crested Butte has some who can match that and I’d love to see them recognized as well.
Anyway, enjoy the sun and roll with the weather.
