Vacancy opens up on Mt. CB Town Council

Council hoping to appoint new member

The Mt. Crested Butte Town Council has an unexpected vacancy with the resignation of councilman Tom Steuer for personal reasons.

According to Mt. Crested Butte town manager Joe Fitzpatrick, Steuer gave the town his notice on September 26, and under the town charter the town council now has 30 days to appoint a new member. Should they fail to find someone to fill the seventh council seat within the 30-day window a special election would be held.
“We’re hopeful that we will be able to appoint someone to the council, and a special election will not be necessary,” said Fitzpatrick.
Steuer missed all of the council’s September meetings, and according to Fitzpatrick he told the council it was likely he would continue to be absent multiple times in the next year. His resignation was amicable.
Individuals wishing to be considered for the open seat should send a letter to the town expressing their interest. Qualified applicants must be U.S. citizens, registered to vote in Mt. Crested Butte and have resided in Mt. Crested Butte for a minimum of one year. Letters must be received by 5 p.m. on Oct. 17 to be considered.
Mt. Crested Butte is also looking to fill vacancies on the Planning Commission and the Downtown Development Authority. For more information contact the town at 970-349-6632.
