Extremes at the ski resort opening and closing daily

Repairs for the North Face Lift

Wednesday’s snow brought a noticeable sense of relief to town, but with a projected one to three inches from the storm cycle there’s no doubt that everyone is waiting for the next big storm. The continued lack of snow and an unexpected repair on the North Face Lift has Crested Butte Mountain Resort on its toes.

“The North Face Lift has been down since last Saturday,” confirmed Erica Mueller, the resort’s director of innovations and relations. The lift had been used for a number of hours already getting ski patrol out onto the North Face for control work and had been working fine. But a mechanical issue arose after it was opened to the public. Mueller said that the necessary part had arrived as of Wednesday, February 4, and the lift was slated to open the following day.
As for terrain openings and closings, things continue to be a moving target as ski patrol balances opening new terrain with closings to keep the snowpack in good shape.
“They’re opening and closing almost daily,” Mueller said, adding, “They’ve been keeping [some terrain] open for short periods of time so it doesn’t get skied out.”
Mueller advises checking Twitter, Facebook, CBMR’s website or the extremes boards on the mountain for the latest open terrain, and to keep hoping for more snow.
