Vader and Daily win

The two contested races for the Gunnison County Electric Association (GCEA) board of directors were both pretty close. In fact, a mandatory recount was conducted Wednesday for the District seven seat between incumbent Chuck Cliggett and challenger Mark Daily. In District six, incumbent John Vader beat out challenger Lucy Waldo 649 votes to 461.

The initial count for District seven had Daily winning the seat by three votes with a count of 571 to 568.

After Wednesday’s recount, each picked up a vote so the final tally had Daily getting 572 votes to Cliggett’s 569.

“John Vader is the declared winner for District 6. There was an automatic recount for district 7 due to our policy requiring such if the tallied votes are within a difference of a margin of 2 percent or less,” explained the GCEA’s Sherry Booth. “This is the case in the initial tabulation for Mark Daily vs. Chuck Cliggett.”

Gunnison Certified Public Accountant Edward Howard had been tabulating the votes which ended Tuesday night at the GCEA annual meeting. Howard and an assistant conducted the recount Wednesday afternoon with representatives of both candidates taking part in the process.

Vader and Daily will officially take their new seats at the next regularly scheduled GCEA board meeting on July 28.
