Rec path funds
The town received an intergovernmental agreement from the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) as part of the process to receive grant funds for the completion of the rec path between Winterset Drive and Marcellina Lane. The IGA had been a long time coming due to dealys by CDOT. It was one of the final hurdles before receiving the funds.
“Now we are tying up some loose ends so we can move forward,” said Joe Fitzpatrick, town manager.
Road repairs
Some roads in Mt. Crested Butte have been getting a bit of a makeover with the application of slurry seal. Foothills Paving and Maintenance, Inc. is doing the work for what town manager Joe Fitzpatrick calls an excellent price of $84,574, below the engineer’s estimate.
A contract has also been awarded to Lacy Construction to replace the culvert under Crystal Road, part of which washed out last spring. The replacement culvert will be made of concrete. The work is slated for completion the week of September 7.
Changes to Performing Arts Center board
A consultant has recommended that the board of directors for the Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center be expanded. Originally, the town of Mt. Crested Butte appointed four members and the Crested Butte Music Festival appointed four members, with two at-large positions. According to councilman Gary Keiser, the consultant “recommended we simplify that in order to bring more community members on board. That entails changes to the bylaws.”
Though the current board of directors has 12 members, the consultant recommended allowing as many as 20. That gave mayor David Clayton some concern.
“One concern I have is that if the board grows to a maximum 20 then the super majority could override all four of town’s votes,” Clayton said, indicating he wanted to make sure that any funds contributed to the project benefit economic development and getting a good building.
The board voted to approve the changes to the bylaws which have also been approved by the Crested Butte Music Festival as required.
In addition, William Buck has stepped down from the board of directors for the Mt. Crested Butte Performing Arts Center due to the demand of work and being away from the area. Mayor Clayton will take the position.
