WESA closes season in Grand Junction fall tournament

Meets stout competition from around the state

The West Elk Soccer Association (WESA) recently concluded their fall soccer season with the CSA Cup tournament in Grand Junction, November 7-8. The CSA Cup is a Colorado Soccer Association sponsored and organized tournament for youth soccer teams across Colorado.

WESA entered 10 teams with both girls and boys teams, across three age divisions, including U10, U12 and U14. In all there were more than 100 Gunnison Valley kids participating and playing soccer.

Living in a mountain town sometimes has its disadvantages, as WESA was trying to hold practices amid the snowing weather in the weeks preceding the tournament. But the kids all persevered and left snowy Crested Butte for the green grass at Grand Junction’s Canyon View Park for two fun-filled days of soccer.

The results were mixed across the board, but the enthusiasm was running high. With so many Crested Butte and Gunnison families in attendance, it was a great social weekend. The younger teams were able to watch some of the older kids play and vice versa. Teamwork and camaraderie were apparent all over the fields.

WESA thanks their British coaches, Sully Desai and Tom Lewis, for heading up a great fall season. They send a huge thank you to all the parent coaches and team managers who volunteer their time. They are the spokes that keep the wheels on the WESA bus rolling.
