Court hearings for two Crested Butte South locals accused of burglarizing a local business have been rescheduled.

Thirty-two-year-old Jeffrey Geiger will now appear in District Court on Friday, May 13, while Kayla Oest-Gagliano, 23, will have a hearing in Gunnison County Court on Tuesday, May 10. Geiger asked that his case be transferred from County Court to District Court.

Both are facing felony charges after confessing to burglarizing a former employer. The recently reopened Crested Butte South General Store was burglarized on April 8 and Geiger, a disgruntled former employee, and his girlfriend confessed to the crime and were arrested.

According to law enforcement officials, during a search of their residence a confession to the burglary was given.

According to the police report, damage occurred to property and merchandise inside the General Store. Additional damaged property, mostly electronics, was found at the suspects’ residence. Cash and other miscellaneous property were also seized from the residence.

The defendants were charged with second-degree burglary, criminal mischief, and theft, all sixth-degree felonies.
