Final vote count for town council doesn’t change election poll results

Gunnison sets new vote record

With all of the ballots counted, including those that came in from overseas or that were dropped off in other counties, the results of the Crested Butte Town Council election did not change but the vote count did, with each candidate gaining at least a couple of additional votes.

Laura Mitchell ended up winning her seat by four votes instead of five, 423-419, over Anne Moore. According to Gunnison County elections director Diane Folowell, an automatic recount would be triggered if the difference were fewer than 2.11 votes, so no recount will take place.

Mayor Jim Schmidt tallied 556 votes, six more than the unofficial tally reported on Tuesday, November 5. Will Dujardin garnered the most votes for council with 540, followed by Mallika Magner with 498, Mona Merrill with 469, Candice Bradley with 451 and then Mitchell and Moore.

A total of 723 votes were cast in Crested Butte; 5,942 were cast in the county; and 1,686 were cast in the city of Gunnison, a new record for the municipality.
