Crested Butte businesses snap up another $25k in town relief funds

More businesses waiting in the wings

Well that didn’t take long. After the Crested Butte Town Council decided at the May 4 council meeting to replenish its relief fund for local businesses with an additional $25,000 on top of the original $100,000, the money was snapped up in hours.

According to Crested Butte finance director Rob Zillioux, 10 grants of $2,500 each were awarded after the meeting to bring the total grant distribution to $125,000. The grants that do no have to be paid back are meant for locally owned businesses and their fixed costs.

“I have declined nearly 10 applications that were outside of town, not in good standing with town or were excluded categories,” Zillioux explained. “I have another five applications on hand, should there be more funding.”

It is expected the council may bring up the relief fund again at the next council meeting on May 18.
