Mt. Crested Butte will soon be equipped to host hybrid meetings

Test meetings in May

The Mt. Crested Butte town council met back in person this week, after several months of Zoom meetings due to the COVID-19 surge in the community. And while there was no virtual option to attend the meeting on Tuesday, the town is working on a hybrid format that will allow the public to tune in virtually while the council meets in person.

Over the past year, the council has asked town staff to figure out a hybrid solution, but staff has said that town hall’s technology/Internet has limited their capabilities to do so. The town is now working this spring to install fiber Internet and integrate video and audio with its existing equipment.

In a memo to the town council, acting town manager Carlos Velado reported that the video equipment for the council chambers was ordered through AV Experts in Grand Junction.

“This equipment will directly interface with our existing audio rack (also installed by AV Experts) and provide the hybrid meeting experience that council has requested,” he said.

The equipment is expected to arrive by the end of April, and AV Experts will then install and program everything on site.

“We anticipate we can begin in-house test meetings in May,” said Velado.
