Not good but not as bad as first thought

What appeared to be a major traffic accident at the corner of Highway 135 and Brush Creek Road on Friday evening, April 29 ended up with two teenagers getting an ambulance ride to the hospital after a one-car accident but no major injuries.

According to Crested Butte Fire Protection District fire and EMS chief Rob Weisbaum, the department received a call just before 7 o’clock Friday evening stating that there was a head-on collision with reports of an unconscious person and two other conscious people.

“On arrival, we found an upright vehicle that had crashed into the ditch,” Weisbaum said. “This was a single vehicle accident. All occupants were out of the vehicle and conscious.”

He said that three of the occupants were local teenage girls, so any more details are limited. The CBFPD did transport two patients to the hospital via ambulance and one patient was transported by her parent in a personal vehicle to GVH.

According to Colorado State Patrol trooper Josh Lewis, the 1988 Toyota 4-Runner driven by one of the three 16-year-old Crested Butte females attempted a left hand turn off Highway 135 onto Brush Creek Road and hit an embankment. All three sustained minor to moderate injuries.

The driver was issued a citation for careless driving causing injury to others and for not wearing a seatbelt. Lewis said it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were involved.
