Briefs: Mt. Crested Butte

DDA appointments

The Mt. Crested Butte town council appointed councilmember Janet Farmer and reappointed Chris Hensley to the Downtown Development Authority board. The council received four letters of interest for the two open spots, including from A Bar Above business owner Eliot Tilton and Coffee Lab manager Amber VanStrien. The council held a blind vote to determine the two appointees.

“What a great thing to have more candidates than spots. We couldn’t go wrong with any of them,” said mayor Nicholas Kempin. He thanked the other candidates and encouraged them to continue pursuing the opportunity to serve on the board in the future.

GORP letter of support

The council unanimously agreed to a letter of support for the Gunnison Outdoor Resources Protection Act (GORP) as requested by High Country Conservation Advocates (HCCA). Colorado Senator Michael Bennet has worked on this draft proposal with stakeholders in the valley for a decade, which will protect and enhance key portions of Gunnison County through a variety of public land management tools, including special designations focused on recreation, wildlife, scientific research and conservation. Senator Bennet intends to introduce GORP to Congress on September 17.
