Rec path Nordic grooming
The Mt. Crested Butte town council agreed to extend its rec path grooming agreement with Crested Butte Nordic for another five years. CB Nordic grooms the rec path between Crested Butte and Mt. Crested Butte and the town has paid the CB Nordic $4,500 per year for those services since 2012. The council agreed to CB Nordic’s request to increase the amount to $5,500 to accommodate the cost increases to maintain and groom each season.
Council member Valeda Scribner asked about the “no man’s land” stretch of rec path that is not groomed, between the groomer turnaround and the Water and San facility. CB Nordic executive director Hedda Peterson explained that the county does not allow them to groom that section due to the retaining wall and road safety. “We would happily groom it with permission but that has not been granted,” she said. Town staff added that there are safety concerns for users being so close to Gothic Road and that there’s no good place to turn around without getting into Water and San property.
“People are boot-packing in the snow to get to the groomed rec path or walking along the road. To me that’s a bigger safety concern,” said Scribner.
Peterson said she would be happy to set up a meeting with all the entities involved with that section of road and circle back for continued conversation.
