Briefs: Crested Butte

By Mark Reaman

Ticket alert!

Are you ready for the CB summer parking enforcement crew? They’re getting ready for you. The summer parking contract begins Friday, June 27 and prior to that, the Crested Butte marshal’s office, community development department and Interstate Parking have been working on improvements such as updated parking passes for Elk Avenue businesses and QR codes for the neighborhood zone signs. Time to think before you park in CB!

CB might have an election this November

There should be a town council election this fall…or at least people will be seated for new terms. Two years ago, there were the same number of candidates as open seats, so an actual election was not necessary. Open seats this time include the mayor’s seat and Ian Billick has indicated he will probably run again for re-election. The other council seats up for election include those held by John O’Neal, Anna Fenerty and Beth Goldstone. The first day candidates can circulate petitions will be Wednesday, August 6. The petitions are due back by August 29.

Stuff:

—Nine applications were in for the latest two, two-bedroom Paradise Park Workforce rental units. Six of the nine phase-2 applicants participated in the phase-1 lottery and three were new applicants. Based on longevity in the community, 31 total tickets were in the hopper. The drawing was held June 18.

—In the first quarter financial update for town, finance director Kathy Ridgeway reported that “revenues received and expenditures incurred during the first quarter of 2025 are in line with town’s original approved budget. First quarter sales tax was up 5.7% over last year.
